Aladja Rock Monastery

Aladzha Monastery is the most famous medieval rock monastery on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, inhabited by monks-hermits in XIII-XIV century.

The premises of the monastery are carved in two levels at a height of almost 40 meters of limestone rock. In the 70s of the 20th century a museum was built near the rock monastery, where various interesting exhibitions have been arranged in addition to the permanent exposition presenting the history of the rock monastery. In 2009, with the funds of the Municipality of Varna, the audiovisual performance "Legends of Aladzha Monastery" was created. The show is a part of the program supporting the initiative for the approval of Varna's candidacy for the cultural capital of Europe in 2019.
